I think I might know what I want to be when I grow up. Will someone please tell me when that happens so that I can start my career?
Anyway, I think I want to be an elementary school teacher. How do you guys feel about that? I want to inspire children, and to do fun projects and stuff like that. I remember my elementary school teachers with fondest memories, that was the place where I learned the most in school and actually remembered it. The people I look up to and admire are/were teachers, especially seeing life in their perspective, as a teacher myself. I like to share my knowledge with other people, and I get along with the young age group myself, seeing I can relate to being in fifth grade once myself. The only dumb thing I would hate about going into the program are some of the classes. There's rhythm and dance, PE for elementary school teachers, teaching math (a subject which is definitely not my favorite), and other such classes. I just hate doing things in which I feel extremely stupid or childish.
I've thought about an older age group, like middle school or high school, but they're not big fans of dumb project ideas I'm sure I'd think up, and I don't think this college that I'm attending offeres a secondary education degree, but I could just be a dumb freshman and be searching with my eyes closed or something.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. I just think I should pick something soon, that registration date is looming ever closer...

Fist of all, of course our school offeres a secondary ed degree - you just have to pick the subject you want to teach first! And THEN you can get started in the secondary ed program. But in reality, I think you're right that you'd be good at the elementary ed stuff. I know some of those classes sound kind of stupid, but I bet they wouldn't be that bad :) And I'm sure you'd even be able to handle elementary school math ;) The only thing is that if you REALLY have a problem with doing things "in which (you) feel extremely stupid or childish".... I'm not sure elementary ed is the way to go! But remember, if it's just the class you're afraid of, there will probably be at least 20 other students making fools of themselves right along with ya!
One thing though sweetheart is that I really think you should try and not put quite so much pressure on yourself right now to come up with the one "true" answer to your career plans. I know you've had a few semesters, but the Lord will guide you. If you really think El ed is the way to go, take a few classes along with a couple GEs next fall and see how it goes! If you're trying to decided between 2 different careers, pick a class or two from each and go from there! (it really helps if they can also maybe count for a GE like Psycology 101 did for me ;)
Whatever you do, I promise the Lord won't let you make a big mistake if you're constantly pondering and praying, like I know you are! Take care and have a good weekend!
I agree with the aforementioned, wholeheartedly. I have a number of good friends who are El Ed majors, and I'll bet you could even talk to them if you wanted. :) But one thing I've heard is that every single teacher for their classes thinks their (i.e., his/her) class (e.g., "Rhythm and Dance") is the most important thing for kids to have in their lives - but that's just something you would get used to, not something to stop you from taking those classes.
But also, there are some of those classes you will find you really enjoy, and some you won't quite as much - just like anyone in any major. The more you enjoy, the better, but if you really are in it for the kids, you'll be able to help them the most in the things you really love, and you'll do just fine with teaching math and those other things that aren't your strongest points.
Again, like Bree said, just jump in, and one way or another, you'll find the right path.
